Instructor

Kate Shapero is a science teacher at The Miquon School, a private elementary school in Philadelphia. As a lifelong learner, Kate has been honing her restorative practices for 15 years with fellow staff, students and families, and her community.

Kate has taught at a number of independent schools and worked for the Penn Literacy Network. She has partnered with and supported learners of all ages, from nursery school children to post-graduates. Kate specializes in curriculum design that is experiential, meaningful, and joyful. She regards positive relationships as a core value and aims to brings radical and needed transformation to schools and communities.

Kate is passionate about student-centered, progressive learning opportunities and critical thinking in science education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Bioscience and Biotechnology from Drexel University in 2003 and a Master of Restorative Practices and Education from the IIRP Graduate School in 2010.

Kate resides in Philadelphia. She spends a lot of time with her family and sweet pup, Blue. She enjoys most things, but especially likes reading novels, cooking with ghee and dancing in the kitchen!
